Opinion By R. Al Bain
I received my first request from a person I thought was a true “Patriot” and a member of a Michigan group advocating freedom, liberty, limited government, and a subscriber of the “Bain Report” to be removed from the weekly mailing list! His reason is as follows: I rarely read it and when I do I feel your bias is not in my interests. I thought he was a Patriot? Does any of the many subscribers of the “Bain Report” see anything that has been published that may have sparked this request? If the True Conservatives, Patriots, and Activist are dividing on ideology and the common goal of the limited role government plays in our lives am I wasting my time and efforts as to inform and educate?

The articles that are published weekly are an accumulation of news from various news publications and not necessarily written by the author of the “Bain Report”. The only thing in the reports that are of the author is the opinion at the beginning of these reports. As stated up front, first and foremost of every publication is that The “Bain Report” is a weekly publication for those citizens of Michigan who are concerned with the representation they are receiving from their elected officials. The purpose of this report is to educate and inform the citizens with pertinent articles and legislation that affect the family’s of Michigan.

The whole movement has been high jacked by the Republican Party and those who would call themselves “Patriots” have drank the kol-aid and have been given positions within the local parties to satisfy their thrust! It reminds me of the movie with Mel Gibson (The Patriot) when one of their own was ordered to burn the Church with all the towns people in it, same thing with these folks! This individual has been given such a position in the South Oakland Republican Party! He sure has changed his tune since I went to a function a few years back in Southfield when Bob Schulz from (Give Me Liberty) was there to speak at this person’s request!

While this is the first and only request for removal so far with the many requesting adding them to the “Bain Report” I find this very troubling!

A Bridge Too Far – Snyder Back Dooring
MIRS is reporting that the Snyder administration is looking at several “back door” options, one is to rewrite State Trunkline Act (Public Act 51) giving more authority to MDOT to cut a deal with Canada. Wait a minute, isn’t (Public Act 51) the excuse given as to why are roads cannot be fixed because that Act ties the legislature’s hands? Several times in recent past that’s just the excuse that Senator Randy Richardville has been quoted in the newspapers, candidate forums, and I believe the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce was told this in a speech! If private enterprise want to built the Bridge at no cost to taxpayer and without sticking Michigan’s hand in the debt ridden, springs attached Federal government cookie jar that I say let Capitalism work!!

Not All in GOP love Pete Hoekstra
Lacking a front-runner for months, many in the Republican establishment finally convinced former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Holland to jump into the race after he had already decided to skip it.Betsy DeVos, former U.S. Sen. Spencer Abraham and Michigan’s Republican national committeeman Saul Anuzis, sent a letter to state Republicans urging them to support charter school executive Clark Durant, who isn’t officially in the race yet. Though they didn’t mention Hoekstra in the letter, they did say Durant was not a Washington insider, code for he’s different than Hoekstra, who spent nearly two decades in Congress.

Michigan Lawmakers Prove Part-Time Legislature Viable
State lawmakers proved this year that they could make government work and make it work quickly. If their success is commendable, it also revives an issue that so far isn’t very high on their priority list: a part-time legislature. The idea is intriguing, and it resonates with Michigan voters. Many have grown weary of big government and the considerable compensation state lawmakers and their staffs receive for full-time work. GOP lawmakers control Michigan’s House and Senate. This is their opportunity to practice what they preach. Randy Richardville, the Senate majority leader opposes a part-time legislature because he’s all about “bigger government”!

Yet Another Monroe Business Shut’s Down, More to Come?
Over the last few years Monroe has been losing businesses at an alarming rate! Quatro’s, a Monroe restaurant established more than 35 years ago and which was renovated in 2009, closed its doors Wednesday night from a lack of business, according to one of its founders and owners.

Monroe County Historical Museum wants to Levy a Tax on Citizens
Here we go again! Recession, Depression, Population Flight, Double Digit Unemployment, Job Losses, Home Foreclosures, Monroe Businesses Closing, now the Monroe County Historical Society wants yet more taxes from the already overburdened taxpayers! They were given one year to come up with a self sustainable source of income to run the Museum with the taxpayers footing the bill charging property owners a .06-mill tax using an obscure 1913 law (Public Act 88) and the best they can come up with is, give us another year of taxpayer money! Personally I said “NO” the first time and I say “ABSOULUTLEY NOT” with this request! If Hobby Nels (Historical Commission Chairman) were to have his way a permanent tax for the museum would be bestowed upon the already overburdened taxpayer’s! I think this commission needs to look for a new chairman! Have them contact John Dingell for the money so he can continue his “Photo-Op’s”.

Box Office Bombs: Made in Michigan at Taxpayer Expense
Many films are getting more money from Michigan taxpayers than they are at the theaters! “The Genesis Code,” a film shot in Michigan put Michigan’s taxpayers are on the hook for $1.74 million in the form of a tax subsidy reimbursement to help offset the $4.5 million that filmmakers spent in the state while shooting. A review of the movies awarded $1 million or more in tax subsidies listed in the 2009 Michigan Film Office annual report found that six of those seven movies received more in subsidies than they made up at the box office in U.S. theaters.

Michigan Film Incentive: Part IV
How in the world can the business community support those elected officials here in Michigan who vote in favor of the Film Producers subsidy? They are cutting their own throats but yet they still support these legislators at election time.

What has America become?
Has American become the land of the double standard? Lets see: if we lie to the Congress, it’s a felony and if the Congress lies to us its just politics; if we dislike a black person, we’re racist and if a black person dislikes whites, its their 1st Amendment right; the government spends millions to rehabilitate criminals and they do almost nothing for the victims; in public schools you can teach that homosexuality is OK, but you better not use the word God in the process; you can kill an unborn child, but it is wrong to execute a mass murderer; we don’t burn books in America, we now rewrite them; we got rid of communist and socialist threats by renaming them progressive; we are unable to close our border with Mexico, but have no problem protecting the 38th parallel in Korea; if you protest against President Obama’s policies you’re a terrorist, but if you burned an American flag or George Bush in effigy it was your 1st Amendment right.

Fire Sales Dilute SE Michigan Home Values
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are selling hundreds perhaps thousands of foreclosed properties in metro Detroit for far less than they appear to be worth, a practice that local leaders say is driving down property values and weakening neighborhoods. Local officials blame the federal government which took control of Fannie and Freddie in 2008 at a cost to taxpayers of $141 billion and climbing for doing little to stop the fire sales.

Turkia Awada Mullin Bad Choice for next CEO of Metro Airport
Wayne County’s chief economic development officer, Turkia Awada Mullin, is expected to be recommended Tuesday as the next CEO of the board that oversees Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Why should this matter to the citizens of Wayne County and the State of Michigan? The authority, which hires the CEO, was created by the Legislature in 2002 in the wake of federal and state investigations into Wayne County’s management of the airport and questionable construction contracts for the $1.2 billion McNamara Terminal.

Turkia Awada Mullin brokered the failed deal for Pinnacle Race Course that ended up costing taxpayers and also has ties to the scandals involving Allied Capital Corp. which invests in entrepreneurial companies. The Feds handed down fraud charges involving its Business Loan Express unit, one of the country’s largest SBA lenders. See Your Tax Dollars at Work.  Also there was the Macomb Circuit Court Case  involving shady dealings with this same company. If approved, Mullin would replace Lester Robinson, who was ousted by the seven-member authority in May 27, 2010.

Former authority member James Nicholson accused Ficano’s office of orchestrating Robinson’s ouster at the time in a “plainly political maneuver.” The situation is a bid by Ficano to reassert county control over the airport in a bid to capture its revenue, Nicholson said. The authority and its CEO also oversee nearby Willow Run Airport in Van Buren Township. The CEO handles day-to-day oversight of more than 700 people and an annual operating budget of about $265 million. Has Mullin ever run an airport? Looks like a shady deal to this citizen.

Why should we citizens expect anything different out of Ed (Fast Eddie) McNamara’s political step children. McNamara, a Democrat, mentored members of the party in the state, including Jennifer Granholm, Mike Duggan, Kwame Kilpatrick, Bob Ficano, and allegedly former state attorney general Republican Mike Cox! The political corruption runs deep in Detroit and Wayne County and I don’t know if the Feds will ever get to the bottom of this rabbit hole?

It will be of little avail to the people that the laws be made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood.
